I designed your living room in different ways and chose several area rug options. The colours match your kitchen to ensure both spaces connect nicely.
Floor Plan
I have several rug options for you to consider. This option has a round floral rug that has lots of colours in it so you can find vintage furniture pieces that will work with it.

Option B - rectangular rug with deep red tones, same wall and bookcase colour as above
Option C- This option brings in green tones with the area rug and wall colour. In this option the bookcases and the walls would be the same colour.
For the back wall, bathroom and space in front of the windows facing the backyard. Add a gallery wall of family photos in vintage frames above a cabinet. This will give a nice focal point when you walk into the space. In your bathroom add a deep colour on the walls and replace your mirror and wall sconces for a quick and easy update.
The other option is to have a reading area in front of the backyard facing windows as shown below.
One other thought I had that can be done down the road is wrapping your existing beam and bulkhead with wood to add to the charm.
