ASKED BY BRETT • JAN 09, 2017
Need some things for my mantle. It is not very wide, so items can't be large and don't want them to obstruct TV.
ANSWERED BY MELISSA GRIEVE • JAN 10, 2017
Hi Brett,
Thank you for visiting Decorist Design Bar! I would keep your mantle styling simple since you don't have much room, and so that it won't interfere with the view of the television. I have three styling options for you to consider:
- The first option is simple with a beautiful box placed right under the television.
- The second option has two different sized glass hurricanes on one side and a box on the other.
- The third options is a set of candles sticks on one for a simple asymmetrical look.

How To Arrange Furniture In A Narrow Living Room
ASKED BY DAFNI • JAN 09, 2017
How can we arrange this living room to have a nicer flow? It has an awkward layout and is longer than it is wide. We put the TV by the fireplace because it is the only position we could do while having the sofa face it because the living room opens up to the kitchen and there is no wall there. We also have an island that hangs over into the living room where we put some bar stools. (We did not design this originally- the homeowner did)

Hi Dafni, Thank you for visiting Decorist Design Bar! A narrow room with two focal points can be tricky to layout. I suggest placing the television and media console on the wall where it is but not angled, place it flat against the wall facing the sofa. I would lay down an area rug placed in front of the opposite wall, where the sofa is now. The area carpet will ground the arrangement. Place the chair on the carpet facing the fireplace. This will create a nice L-shaped layout that still leaves the area open where the barstools are. Place the coffee table in the front the sofa with the two side tables and lamps on either side. This will leave room for traffic flow and create a nice conversation cluster.

ASKED BY LAURA • JAN 11, 2017
How should I decorate this foyer?
ANSWERED BY MELISSA GRIEVE • JAN 12, 2017
Hi Laura, thank you for visiting Decorist Design Bar! Even though you have a large open space to work with, you don't have tons of wall space. I would add a small table to the right of the door, this will give you a spot to place your keys and mail. I would add a tray and decorative box to keep the area tidy. Add a beautiful vase so you can add fresh flowers or branches. Hanging a mirror will give you a spot to do a last check before you leave the house. Place a baskets under the table for catch alls, and a beautiful runner. This is a great place to add a bit of color to your entry, I have added it with a navy blue but you could select a tone that works with the rest of your decor in your home.
