How can we arrange this living room to have a nicer flow? It has an awkward layout and is longer than it is wide. We put the TV by the fireplace because it is the only position we could do while having the sofa face it because the living room opens up to the kitchen and there is no wall there. We also have an island that hangs over into the living room where we put some bar stools. (We did not design this originally- the homeowner did)

Hi Dafni, Thank you for visiting Decorist Design Bar! A narrow room with two focal points can be tricky to layout. I suggest placing the television and media console on the wall where it is but not angled, place it flat against the wall facing the sofa. I would lay down an area rug placed in front of the opposite wall, where the sofa is now. The area carpet will ground the arrangement. Place the chair on the carpet facing the fireplace. This will create a nice L-shaped layout that still leaves the area open where the barstools are. Place the coffee table in the front the sofa with the two side tables and lamps on either side. This will leave room for traffic flow and create a nice conversation cluster.
