Alabama Traditional Kitchen Design
This design was for a remodel, we didn’t need to move any walls since the space was already open to the family room. The key with this design was making the large space functional, creating a nice work triangle and space for a large family to gather and enjoy.
Creating a functional layout is the first start in any kitchen design project. It normally takes a few rounds of revisions to get the perfect plan.
We broke up the long run of cabinets on the sink wall by adding glass doors and creating symmetry with the cabinets going to the counters on the ends. Double dishwashers on either side of the sink with narrow pullouts for cleaning supplies and storage between.
We had tried a few different variations on the plans with a peninsula design as another option but I think the double island works really well in this space.
We broke up all of the painted cabinetry by having the fridge and freezer panels and gables stained in rich mahogany. We also added a bar area in a little nook off to the side of the family room which is the perfect spot to store snacks and drinks for everyone.
